The best bodyweight movements for weight-loss are often the most simple for a number of reasons, that being peripheral heart action (PHA), size of the muscle used or even the number of muscles used within each movement.

This sounds simple, but is sometimes overlooked.
The bigger the muscles you use, the more calories your body will expend to perform the movement.
For example, utilising your quads in your legs will require more calories and will increase your heart rate far more than if you were to focus on smaller muscle groups such your calves in your legs.
Peripheral heart action (PHA)
The term peripheral heart action (PHA) means to work and isolate muscles in the top half of your body, then straight after isolating and working the muscles in the lower half of your body, and so forth.
This forces you to pump blood up and down your body (as blood will supply your working muscles with oxygen, nutrition, etc), which your body will find tough, resulting in you over expending calories, which is excellent when optimising for weight-loss.

A compound exercise is any movement that requires more than one joint to move, resulting in two or more muscle groups being activated.
